Although not fond of doing sports, men are generally fond of soccer matches. They have a whiz team and are happy to get up in the middle of the night to see a football game. Well, likes to watch the ball can be used as one effort to lose weight, you know.
Based on the penchant for watching football matches, researchers from Glasgow, Scotland, designed a scheme to tackle obesity. A total of 374 supporters and soccer fans who are overweight are invited to participate in a 12 week training program. The training sessions were conducted at a local football club in their area.
One year later, the men weighed down and were still about 5 pounds lighter than the other 374 ball supporters on the waiting list. Their weight loss proves that the fun weight-loss program goes well. Thus, Glasgow researchers said as quoted by BBC News, Tuesday (21/1/2014).
All study participants consisting of 748 men were given advice on healthy eating tips. However, only half are invited to undergo weekly training sessions at professional football clubs.
By the 12th week, the men who participated in the program lost weight. When 12 months passed, 40 percent of participants could maintain weight loss, at least 5 percent of the total body weight initially.
“Weight management and dieting are often mistakenly seen as women’s issues, which means that some men do not want to take part in existing weight management programs,” said study author Professor Kate Hunt.
Not only women, actually men also want to be slimmer. Thus says Hunt, a professor from the University of Glasgow. Therefore we need an attractive weight management program and fun for men. One such fun program is with an exercise program in a football club.
“Participants are enjoying being with other guys who are just like them, sharing their passions about soccer and having the same health problems to deal with, they are happy to have the opportunity to spend time together at the club, using parts of the stadium that usually do not They can access, “Hunt said.
The men also appreciate the opportunities that exist. How they are encouraged, trained, and taught by club coaches. According to Hunt, in the future, such programs have great potential to serve as a solution to obesity in men.
